Wai Lee – Executive Director
Wai Lee is the Executive Director of Smart Trees Pacific and has been with the organization since 2008. He was the project manager for both Urban Tree Canopy Assessment studies and the Kailua Water Quality rain garden project at American Saving Bank and was a part of the research team looking at the effects before and after the installment of the rain garden. He has been working as a Citizen Forester in Kailua since the project’s formation in 2016.
Wai earned his BS, MBA and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
Jolie Wanger – Project Consultant
Jolie Wanger is a staff Project Consultant at Smart Trees Pacific working with the Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program and has been with the organization since 2013. Jolie has previously worked as a University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Faculty Extension Agent with Sea Grant where she developed a Citizen Science-based watershed monitoring program, as well as developing capacity for watershed management and citizen engagement. She has also worked as the Administrator for the Aloha Arborist Association, for the O‘ahu Resource Conservation and Development Council to produce community workshops, and as Information and Education Specialist for the Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
Jolie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Boston University and a Master’s degree in Geography from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Shannon Noelle Rivera- Project Consultant
Shannon Noelle Rivera is a staff Project Consultant at Smart Trees Pacific and the Community Partnership Coordinator with the Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program. Focused on conservation, Shannon is interested in the connections between urban forestry and wildlife. She is President of Hawaii’s Society for Conservation Biology Chapter, sits on Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance’s Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Next-Gen Committee and is an elected board member for Society for Conservation Biology Oceania encompassing Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Australasia.
Shannon holds two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Environmental Studies and Gender and Conflict Resolution with minors in Zoology, Peace Studies and Dance and is a current Master of Science candidate with the University of Winchester.
Corey Bassett- Project Consultant
Corey Bassett is a staff Project Consultant at Smart Trees Pacific. Her recent relevant experiences are in grant writing, developing community outreach strategies and volunteer training programs. In her previous position, Corey coordinated the California Initiative to Reduce Carbon and Limit Emissions which planted over 3,000 street trees with over 1,000 volunteers in 15 cities over two years. She also has broad experience performing urban forestry, municipal tree care, biological, and arboricultural consulting work.
Corey is an ISA Certified Arborist, holds the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification, and has a Masters in Environmental Studies conc. Environmental Biology and B.A. in Earth Science concentration in Environmental Science, both from the University of Pennsylvania.
Jenn Clark – Administrative Support
